This report is a result of the study carried out in Kasubi Market Lubaga Division regarding the acquisition and use of financial literacy skills among women operating small scale business. Its objectives were; to examine how women operating small scale businesses in Kasubi market acquire financial literacy skills, to explore how women operating small scale businesses in Kasubi
market practice the financial literacy skills, to establish the challenges women operating small scale businesses face in practicing the financial literacy skills. Abide to find information to the study objectives, I used a qualitative approach where I employed a case study research design and qualitative techniques of data collection were used such as focused group discussion, semi structured interviews and observation. The key findings of the study revealed that. A large percentage of women operating small scale
business in Kasubi market acquire the financial literacy skills through demonstration and apprenticeship, group discussions and formal trainings where methods like lectures and observation are used. Findings also revealed that saving is the most practiced financial literacy skill by women vendors in Kasubi Market. It was further revealed that a few women operating business in Kasubi market practice record keeping for their business. The study included that, acquisition of financial literacy skills can be supported with the education process. Individuals can be educated from childhood both formally through lessons aimed at acquiring relevant skills. Starting from elementary schools, basic, simple fun applications with a money theme can be used in the lessons. And informally through freely associating with those that are skilled. Women operating small scale business apply the financial literacy skills in a less formal and simple way. The study recommends that more trainings in financial literacy should be provided to women operating small scale business to enable them operate and manage their business successfully.
