| dc.description.abstract | This study was carried out in Bushenyi district. This study was aimed at establishing the level of awareness of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona virus 2 among people in Bushenyi district specifically to establish the level of awareness of the schools and surrounding communities about SARS-CoV-2, the extent of adherence to the standard operating procedures
in the reopened schools and the community and identify the challenges faced by schools and communities in adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures. The study findings indicated that 43.3% of the respondents were females while 56.7% of them were males, for students, 92.7% considered were from a class of senior six while 7.3% of them were from senior four. The study
findings also found that 40% of the administrators were from private schools while 60% were from government schools. All the respondents (100%) revealed that they know the disease called COVID-19, 73.2% of the respondents mentioned that andshakes and related body contacts with infected people transmits COVID-19 4.7% indicated that kissing transmits the disease, 12.8%,
indicated that overcrowding with infected person transmits the disease, 13.4% indicated that contact with infected objects transmits the disease,24.8% also indicated that the disease is airborne and also transmitted through touching soft parts and 28.2% indicated that the disease is transmitted through droplets or body fluids. The study findings indicated that 68.3% of the
respondents knew flu as a sign of COVID-19, 55.4% knew cough as a sign of COVID-19, 54.7% knew fever/High temperatures as a sign of COVID-19, 7.4% knew that body weakness as a sign of COVID-19 AND 35.1% knew difficulty in breathing as assign of the disease. The study findings indicated that 75.3% of the respondent got information about COVID-19 from the radios, 78.8% got the information from Television broadcasts, 50% from internet, 56.8% from newspapers and 30.1% from posters and local health workers respectively. The study findings reported that 86.7% of the respondents put on masks while in public, 50% put on masks the whole day while 4.7% never put on masks at all, 94.7% of the respondents wash their hands many times a day,4% of the respondents wash their hands once a day and 1.3% of the respondents do not wash their hands at all, 81.3% of the respondents were sanitizing themselves, 70% of the respondents who said that they face challenges in the implementation of Sops, they were facing the issue of masks making them uncomfortable, 47.5% complained of the requirements for SoPs being expensive for example masks, sanitizers, water, soap hence limiting implementation, 10.1% indicated that it is hard to materials for use to maintain the SoPs. The study concluded that the level of awareness among the people in Bushenyi district is high since
almost they are aware of the disease, signs and symptoms, how it is transmitted and how to control it. More comfortable measures for preventing transmission of COVID-19 from one person to another should be availed for students since it is hard to implement for example s0cial distancing and masks which make people uncomfortable. | en_US |
