The topic of the study was “Factors that determine the choice of residence among students in Makerere University: A case study of School of Statistics and Planning.” Stratified random sampling was used to select 196 respondents from the five courses offered at the school from which data was collected through questionnaires given to them. The analysis was carried out using STATA version 15 software at a 5% level of significance and Pearson’s chi-square method from which variables such as proximity to campus, internet access, affordability, number of occupants and security of residence were significant factors that determine the choice of residence of the students whereas year of study, family income, employment status and gender are not significant factors. From those findings, the government of Uganda through the university should set up more residential around the university to enable easy access to campus by the students. The university should also install more routers around the premises for easy accessibility to the internet. The government should also deploy more police around the students’ areas of residence to ensure safety around their premises. In addition, private investors should set-up more residential that are affordable to the students. The factors identified will guide both the government and investors in effective planning for the residences to be established.en_US
