The main goal for the research was to assess the effects of Rural Urban Migration on housing in Kampala: Low-income earners. Where the problem considered was the escalation of the challenge of inadequate housing units and the development of slums with indecent housing units and the associated slum conditions in Kampala. The specific objectives that were taken on were; to identify the causes of Rural Urban Migration to Kampala, to determine the number of occupants per housing units in Mulago, Kampala, and to analyse the conditions of housing units in Mulago, Kampala. The area of study was located in Kampala, Kawempe division, Mulago, Nsooba, near an abattoir, Mawanda Road flyover and Prisma Hotel. Theoretically the research considered Push model of rural urban migration which entailed factors that forced people out of a certain area and Pull model of rural urban migration, which are magnetizing factors of destination. For the housing conditions, there was consideration of Households’ occupation, Housing supply and demand, Housing types, Electricity connection, Construction Materials used, water supply, sanitation facilities, Garbage Collection, transport means, Education facilities, and Health care facilities. A total population of 600 households was considered, and through Stratified random sampling method a sample size of 234 households was obtained. Questionnaires, observation, and document review data collection techniques were used. Descriptive data analysis was undertaken with aid of Microsoft excel. The ascertained findings and results were presented in form of frequency tables, pie charts, graphs and percentages. The conclusion was based on eighteen deductions got from results and findings related to the measurable specific objectives. The appropriate recommendations were drawn based on the conclusion deductions with the final recommendation calling for “further research” on the identified challenges and those that were not undertaken by the research namely, other used transport means, security issues drainage issues and others.en_US
