S-CoV-2 S glycoprotein contains a region, the receptor binding domain (RBD), which specifically identifies the human angiotensin conversion enzyme (ACE2) as its receptor. Mutations that lead to variations in these hot spots may affect infectivity, pathogenesis, and transmissions of SARS-CoV-2 and outbreaks from new coronavirus variants. Studies have shown that vaccines against severe acute respiratory syndrome have prevented infection and adverse outcomes from several SARS-CoV-2 variants. However, studies have also shown varying efficacy of coronavirus vaccines against different corona virus variants as a major setback in the coronavirus vaccination exercise across the globe hence increased transmission among vaccinated people. This is because some studies have shown that certain vaccines are more effective on certain variants of coronavirus than others.en_US
