Drug abuse, school dropout and juvenile delinquency among youths in Mengo, Kampala

The study was aimed at finding the relationship between drug abuse, school dropout and juvenile delinquency among youths in Mengo Kampala. A study adopted a quantitative research approach with correlational method to determine the relationship between the study variables. Data was analyzed using statistical package for social scientists (SPSS version 23). The results showed that there is a significant relationship between drug abuse and juvenile delinquency (r=.701** p=.000). The results also showed that there a negative relationship between school dropout and juvenile delinquency (r=-.789**p=.000 ). Finally the study showed that there is a significant relationship between drug abuse and school dropout(r=.600** p.000) Drug abuse is one of the most common factor affecting youths in different institutions in Uganda today with less attention against its associated negative effects among youths. Therefore, if the government does not put strict measures against schools which are not minding and punishing students engaging in drug use, school dropout and juvenile delinquency among youths will increase.
