dc.description.abstractThe current system is faced with a problem of missed collection where a client misses a truck to pick his/her garbage on a specified day of the week. This means one has to wait till next week or get other means of disposal which is not fair to clients plus residents in the city who don’t want to pay garbage fees and are not sensitized on their obligation to pay for the garbage collection services and inability to generate reports because of the manual data entry and compilation of daily activities by the contracted private operators that is costly in terms of resources and has unreliable customer data backup in the long run. This project therefore proposed a solution to the above challenges by development of SWMS a low-cost innovative system used by the private operators to solve the above identified problems and sensitize clients about good waste practices by clients as a new drive achieved from technology advancement. The research involved the following set of objectives; To review related literature and conduct a field study to identify requirements for SWMS. A field study regarding waste management was mainly carried out within Kampala. Methods used to obtain data included observation, interviews and questionnaires. To design a solid waste management system. We used the structured modelling approach to design aspects of the system. Under this we developed context diagram, data flow diagram and Enhanced Entity Relationship Diagram (EERD). To implement the solid waste management system. The system interfaces of the solid waste management system management were developed through use of various web development tools including HTML, JQuery, CSS among the many. To test and validate the solid waste management system. Prototype and system validation forms were used at this stage with a major aim of identifying system errors and the level of system satisfaction and usability respectively. Identified errors were as well corrected at this stageen_US
