This research was conducted in Alito Sub County Kole District in Northern Uganda to document the management of draught animals, examine their limitations and evaluate their contributions. Data was collected using semi structured questionnaires focusing on the type of draught animals used, their general management, their contributions and limitations. The results of the study indicated oxen (60%) and bulls (40%) were used only for ploughing. Draught animals were not housed, were communally grazed (83%), harsh treatment (48%) was applied during work and local remedies (43%) was the major treatment being carried out by the farmers themselves (65%). Diseases (16%) and lack of pasture (14%), were the major limitations to animal traction. Draught animals contributed to crop production, social capital, and household income through cattle sales and hiring. Full utilization of draft animals, proper management and animal health service delivery should be promoted through improved extension services so as to promote DA technology and enhance wealth creation, food security and rural development.en_US
