ItemAutomated crime report visualization and secure path prediction(Makerere University, 2019-12-04) Agaba, Davis ; Mukasa, Peter ; Abila, Joshua ; Ssemate, BrianThis project was aimed at the development of a crime data visualization system for the police and an android mobile application for predicting a secure path for the citizens in Kampala. The main objective of this project was to develop a web-based crime vi- visualization system to enhance police investigations, crime solving and also help in overcoming the hurdles the police go through while analyzing crime data over a long period of time. All in all, providing a visual of crime patterns and trends in Kampala. The approaches used to solve this problem included; gathering requirements, designing, implementing, testing and validating the system. Information for system study was gathered using tools such as interviews, observation, questionnaires, and study of relevant literature. DFDs and ERDs were used in the analysis and design of the system. The technolo- gies used in the implementation of the objectives of this study included Java, Python, CSS, HTML, Android Studio, Flask Framework, Google Maps) and the Database Management System employed was MySQL. The outcome of the project was an integrated system capable of visualizing crime data upon submission in the system, such as plotting graphs, drawing pie charts, geocoding them on their respective geocoordinates on google maps. To the side of the mobile application, the system is able to generate a safe path based on the criminal history of the areas between the start and destination points. Upon successful testing and system validation, we believe that the system can effectively and efficiently aid in police activities and also help citizens travel safely through Kampala routes.
