dc.description.abstract | Floods are among the most catastrophic natural disasters around the globe impacting human lives and infrastructure. The always changing climate and land use especially in under developed regions that haven’t been planned for adequately have raised challenges associated with increased runoff and flood management. This, coupled with poor disposal of wastes and little to no maintenance works being done on the existing drainage systems magnifies the effect of flooding especially in urban to semi-urban catchments.
This study was aimed at analyzing the existing flood defenses of Namasuba along Kampala-
Entebbe highway, determining the runoff from this area and incorporating Sustainable Urban
Drainage Systems as a potential mitigation strategy.
Chapter one comprises of the introduction of the report; The background, objectives and specific
objectives, problem statement and justification for the research.
Chapter two gives a detailed description of the different methods of determining runoff, stormwater management approaches, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.
Chapter three involves a detailed description of the methodology. This involved site visits, data
collection, and delineation of catchment using ArcGIS and determining runoff quantity.
Chapter four discusses the results attained in modelling catchment using EPA SWMM software.
A detailed hydrologic analysis was also undertaken as shown.
