dc.description.abstract | The experiment was carried out to determine the synergistic effect of the combined extracts of Tetradenia riparia and Zingiberber officcinale against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The bacteria used were sub-cultured on blood agar and an API carried out to ascertain the identity of these bacteria. The methanolic extracts obtained from Tetradenia riparia, Zingiber officcinale and their combination, all at 0.5g/ml concentration were tested for antibacterial activity. Agar well diffusion assay was used to determine susceptibility of the microorganisms towards the extracts. Tetradenia riparia and Zingiber officcinale extracts exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus as used in the study. However, Klebsiella pneumoniae exhibited resistance against all the extracts. There was no significant difference in the antimicrobial activity of Tetradenia.riparia, Zingiber officcinale singly used and their combination. The extracts of Tetradenia.riparia, Zingiber.officinale and Tetradenia. riparia+Z.officinale exhibited varying minimum inhibitory concentrations against Staphylococcus.aureus as 0.0625, 0.03125 and 0.03125g/ml respectively. | en_US |
