Abstract
The current study is concerned with sound devices in Lugisu riddles and the genre in general. As investigated, earlier studies on riddles outline functions, performance and structure of the riddles. Actually they regard it as part of general folklore and since in most societies it is taken as ''minor from'', few studies have been conducted on literariness of a riddles as part of the literary genre. The study therefore, brings out the fact that sound devices are actually the commonest in the riddles genre with the case study of riddles in Lugisu. Scholars like Ruth Finegan, Chenaina are the biggest advocated of oral literature and therefore, have contributed much to the views on this study. The study is based in the Eastern region of Uhlganda among the Bagisu society. The riddles were analyzed in the original language through translations are clearly made.
