    Abstract
Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body piercing, or furniture. Fashion is an art form. Like fine artists choose canvases to express their thoughts, fashion designers choose the medium of clothes to express their opinions. In Uganda, the function of traditional costumes in contemporary fashion and design was under looked and this did not portray the Ugandan setting of its traditional costumes such as the, gomesi and back cloth thus does not demonstrate a Ugandan aesthetic. The main purpose of study was to assess the potential of traditional/indigenous costumes in contemporary fashion and design in Uganda. This is more so with the design patterns in the cloths and the unique styles so as to fit in the contemporary fashion trends. Interviewing, observation, written documents and visual materials were used in data collection. In chapter four the researcher presented the report and analyzed data got from the field. Lastly in chapter five the researcher came up with the conclusions and recommendations
