    Relationship between women’s socioeconomic status and empowerment in Uganda

    Abstract
    The above study is about the relationship between women's socioeconomic status and empowerment in Uganda. Women empowerment and achieving gender equality are essential for our society to ensure the sustainable development of a country as many scholars have argued that that sustainable development is impossible without gender equality and women's empowerment. Women empowerment is defined as promoting women's sense of self-worth, ability to determine their own choices and rights to influence social change for themselves and others. On the other hand, women's socioeconomic status can be described using different variables such as education, age, place of residence, health status, type of earning among others which will further be discussed in other chapters of this report. The research report mainly focuses on women's participation in household decision-making for both survey years that is 2011 and 2016. It also comprises of five chapters with chapter one about the introduction, background of study, problem statement, objectives, research questions, scope of study and the significance of study. Chapter two, the theoretical background. The researcher employed quantitative methods (secondary data) of analyzing the UDHS data sets the survey years. The data was analyzed using statistical packages such as STATA, excel and word application software. Conclusions and recommendations were made to strengthen and improve on the relationship between women's socioeconomic status and empowerment in Uganda. It was discovered that there is a positive relationship between women's socioeconomic status and empowerment in Uganda. Some of the recommendations include, public participation in the different programs set by the government, connection effort between the government and other institutions among others.
