Perceived economic analysis of factors influencing the development of the construction sector in Uganda case study Seyani Brothers & Co. (U) Ltd

Abstract

This study presents the economic analysis of factors influencing the development of the construction sector in Uganda case study Seyani Brothers & Co. (U) Ltd The main objective of the study is to analysis of factors influencing the development of the construction sector in Uganda. The study used a descriptive survey design, since its dealing more with defined description of the facts and characteristics of the population at study (Mugenda, 2003). The survey design is preferred because it allowed the researcher get detailed information. Results from the study showed that majority of respondents that were interviewed were aged 35-39 accounting for 42.5 percent, majority of the respondents attained university education status (60%). highest proportion of respondents had spent a time of 1-2 years at the company (52.5%). majority of the respondents agreed that there was increase in labour supply (85%), results showed that there has been any fluctuation in the price of cement in the industry accounting for 97.5 percent, and when asked about how supply of raw materials (cement) influence on development of the construction industry, majority agreed that Volume of construction output is affected (47.5%). in regard to population increase influence on development of the construction industry majority of the respondents agreed that it increases demand (60%) The study found out that price fluctuation and population increase had a significant relationship with economic development. Therefore the study concludes that population and price fluctuation influence development of the construction industry in Uganda. The study therefore recommends that government should formulate policy that will help regulate price fluctuation of cement and the construction material, this could help play down the agitations on the use of imported building materials by encouraging research in the production of local building materials thus
