    Abstract
This research is carried out to examine the relationship between proverbs and thematic development. It analyses proverbs that portray communality in Chinua Achebe’s Arrow of God. Specifically thirty proverbs are chosen from the novel and examined in terms of context, thematic development and stylistics. The study concludes that proverbs are perfectly capable of developing themes, character traits and even the plot. They aren’t limited to only enriching meaning.
