Plagiarism, students’ motivation and students’ performance among IOP 3 students at Makerere University
Abstract
This research was carried out to examine the relationship between plagiarism, students’ motivation and students’ performance among the students of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (IOP) year three. It was carried out between November to December. Many students today indulge into plagiarism due to low motivation which in the end affects their performance at their places of work in the future and when they proceed in their academics further. Therefore, this research looked at how plagiarism affects students’ motivation and performance. The study used correlation research design, data was collected from the 155 respondents of Industrial and Organizational Psychology who included both males and females and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for the documents analysis and discussions. The findings revealed that there is negative relationship between plagiarism and motivation, a negative relationship between plagiarism and performance and positive relationship between motivation and performance. The study recommended the need for universities to control and eliminate plagiarism among their students as a way of improving their motivation and performance.
