An investigation of textile designs derived from electrical appliances; a case study craft village Kyagwe road, Nakasero Kampala Uganda.
Abstract
This study was to analyze knowledge of creating different textile designs from electric appliances as a source of inspiration by following the design process with elements and principles of design. Textile designing industries in Uganda are growing at a fast rate and designers are at a task of designing sustainable, efficient and unique designs for example African textile designs are more produced as designs are derived from Africas map, flora and fauna and landscape as inspirations for design formulation. This has resulted high production of cloths, tapestries, wall hangings, carpets, furniture fabrics and decorative fabrics and more fabrics are printed and dyed in these same designs.
Different people are inspired by different things like; their culture, religion, landscape, plants and animals but there also some people like electricians, engineers that might be inspired by designs made from electrical appliances but such designs are not seen to the market.
The result sows that textile designs can be also derived from electrical appliances to make good designs for wearable, upholstery and other uses.
