Web-based hostel management system

Abstract

For many students admitted to Makerere University as non-residents, identifying a hostel is a difficult and risky. Many hostels exist, brokers with exorbitant charges and conmen all contribute to the risk. Also, for many hostel managers, administering the activities of these hostels using the existing predominantly manual systems is a steep hill to climb. The major aim of this project therefore is to design an online system that enables students identify a hostel of their preference and apply for a room at their convenience. In addition, the study is to lead to the development of a web based central database system for the hostels that will be used to allocate rooms automatically, manage records related to students and the hostel. The data that guided this study was obtained through questionnaires, official records, internet, journals and textbooks. The new system was developed using PHP, MySQL, HTML and CSS.
