    Abstract
Power transmission system refers to the means of transmitting power from a generating source to various load users. UETCL is responsible for transmitting bulky power. In Uganda, high voltages at which power is transmitted include; 66kV, 132kV, 200kV and 400kV. The reliability of the power transmission network highly depends on the correct operation of protection systems. However, these protection systems tend to malfunction during their operation thus affecting the power transmission system reliability. Considering Kawanda substation as the case study, this project focuses on the impact of the protection system malfunctions on the power transmission system reliability whereby two networks with and without malfunctions in the protection system modelled in ETAP software were compared .
