Employee engagement and job performance among secondary schools
Abstract
The study sought to find out the relationship between employee engagement and job performance among employees of Secondary Schools. The study intended to achieve the following objectives, to examine the levels of employee engagement, to determine the levels of job performance and finally to find out the relationship between employee engagement and job performance. A correlational study design was used in the study to establish the relationship between the two variables. The study used a total sample of 50 respondents who were subjected to simple random sampling technique of sampling. Data was then collected using self-administered questionnaires. The researcher analyzed data using statistical package for social scientist version 23 (SPSS) and Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was used to test the hypothesis. The levels of employee engagement were found to be high. Results revealed fairly high levels of job performance. Findings also revealed that there is a non-significant relationship between employee engagement and job performance (r=.097, p>0.05). The levels of employee engagement and job performance among employees of secondary schools are relatively and fairly high respectively. There is relatively no significant relationship between the two variables. Several policies should be drafted by organizations to support employee’s well-being rather than solely focusing on developing.
