The study focused on developing a virtual information retrieval guide for Kyambogo University Library and the study objective were; To identify and document information retrieval aids for Kyambogo University, to assess the effectiveness of information retrieval aids for Kyambogo University Library, to review literature and elicit requirements for developing a virtual retrieval guide at Kyambogo University library and to develop a virtual information retrieval guide for Kyambogo University library.
To come up with a virtual information retrieval guide for Kyambogo University, purposive sampling technique was adopted by the researchers to select respondents in order to get information. The sample size was 70 which included 60 students and 10 library staff of Kyambogo University library. Questionnaires, document review, Oral interviews and observation were the data collection methods used in data collection. The project was entitled designing a virtual information retrieval guide for Kyambogo university library. The study objectives included; identifying and document information retrieval aids for Kyambogo University, to assess the effectiveness of information retrieval aids for Kyambogo University Library, to review literature and elicit requirements for developing a virtual retrieval guide at Kyambogo University library, to develop a virtual information retrieval guide for Kyambogo University library.
Since Kyambogo University library offers a lot of services for circulation, user education and orientation all of which work hand in hand with a virtual information retrieval guide to increase on the efficiency and quality of services provided; User education Programs, Need for a written guide on the use of the Virtual information retrieval guide
There should be a clear guide for the library users on how to go about the virtual reference service system so as to avoid the would-be errors faced in cases of failing to use the systems.
Additionally, there should be well stipulated codes of ethics.
