    Abstract
This study examines the symbolism in the selected Kifumbira proverbs so as to bring out the intended meaning, since proverbs are characteristically symbolic making their contextual interpretation open ended which means that the symbols are embedded in most of the Kifumbira Proverbs and also they are so effective since they represent something else they are used in a defamiliarised manner to make the Kifumbira language special and unique from other societies. Since symbols like fire, holes , hands and others are so familiar and we'll known to people so they are used in proverbs to mean something else for example fire to mean lightness and many others thus making symbolism are special and valued aspect in the Kifumbira Proverbs.
