    Abstract
Like in any other division in Kampala city, solid waste management has become a problem in Kawempe division. The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of solid waste management on the rental values of residential properties in Kawempe division. solid waste disposal sites being an essential factor affecting the rental value of existing residential properties around them. The study sought to show how solid waste disposal sites or dump sites have discouraged construction of new buildings due to the nature of soils and also the cause of health-related diseases and low rent paid for the residential properties around them and hence leading to an effect on the rental value of the properties which is negative. It also discusses the authorities responsible for management and collection of the waste, that is Kampala City Council Authority and private waste management companies for example Nabugabo Up deal Joint Venture, Homeklin etc. The study also reviewed the solid waste management techniques, the building regulations in the area, the nature of houses in the area. The study recommended more garbage collection trucks to be availed by Kampala City Council Authority and private companies, this is ensured maximum collection of garbage around the study area so as to prevent the increasing number of solid waste disposal sites.
