Challenges affecting goat farmers in Dwaniro sub-county, Kiboga District
Abstract
Goats play an important role in food production systems in Uganda. Their great popularity can be explained by their good adaptation to many different climates (ecological adaptation) and the many uses for which they can be kept. However, there are several factors that constrain goat production. This research was therefore carried out to determine the different challenges that affect goat production in Dwaniro sub-county.
During January 2022, a total of 50 goat farmers were interviewed on the different challenges that affect goat production following a semi-structured questionnaire.
Results indicated that most goat farmers from Dwaniro sub county were females, and most of the goat farmers practiced the extensive farming system where by the commonest breed used was the local breed and 96% of the goat farmers that participated in the research, their greatest challenge in goat production was diseases, water inadequacy, market unavailability, un access to veterinary services, feeds unavailability.
