    A stylistic study of proverbs in Gishu (Lumasaba).

    Abstract
    This study seeks to examine the way and how proverbs are used in various languages most especially GISHU language in Manafwa district. Specifically, the study ought to establish the effects of how proverbs are used and also to show their relevancy in Gishu since we are able to know what they are and how they were used in Gishu. The use of proverbs in various incidences aims at promotion of culture among the Gishu and other tribes respectively. The frequent engagement of the young in the use of proverbs helps them to express their intellectual and emotional attitudes. Proverbs are important in African culture because they help to dispel the belief that African people are barbaric and uneducated therefore they offer wisdom and poetry in just one sentence. Proverbs also play an important role in African cultures all across the continent since they convey wisdom, truth, a discovery of idea as well as life lessons. The data was collected by use of questionnaire, interview, to mention but a few and then supplemented by personal interviews. Data analysis was done using across sectional research design where data was collected from different respondents so as to allow them answer the questionnaire in an appropriate manner hence the research question. Chapter one has an introduction, background, objectives statement of the problems, research question, and methodology concerning the STYLISTIC STUDY OF PROVERBS IN GISHU. Chapter two involves the literature review where I came up with various scholars in study of proverbs in Gishu and also data assembly analysing proverbs then data analysis explaining the meaning of proverbs involving subject matter, thematic concerns and element of style used. Results of data analysis was presented using continuous research process.
