    Perceptions about HIV/AIDS as a chronic but manageable illness among young married couples in Chegere subcounty Apac district

    Abstract
    HIV/AIDS poses a serious mental and physical health risk. There is need to understand the context in which HIV is spread to find ways to address it. This qualitative study explored the perception of HIV/AIDS among married couples in Chegere sub county Apac District in order to understand the possible causes and consequences of the virus among young married couples in Chegere sub county, Apac District. Interviews were conducted with seventy purposively selected men and women as primary participant in addition the key informant interview was conducted with the village health team (VHT), local council one (LC1), counselors among others the participants were selected by the use of purposively sampling technique and sown ball sampling and sometime convince sampling were used. The study findings indicate that in Chegere Sub-County HIV/AID’s was perceived differently among married couples and the causes were both political social and economic and also polygamous marriage were found to be a very common cause of HIV/AID’s, the perceived consequences of HIV/AID’s include: Lead to school dropout among children, loss of property, dependency, this finding implied the need for community sensitisation in the matters concerning HIV/AID’s, it causes, effects so that people fear it and voluntary HIV testing to reduce on the spread of the virus in Chegere Sub-County
