Life cycle assessment of rice husk briquette production in Uganda.
Abstract
As a partial requirement for the award of a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Mechanical
Engineering at Makerere University, every student is required to brainstorm gaps in their society
that can be solved by designing solutions based on the knowledge they acquired in class in order
to better society. After successfully designing the solution, students are required to document a
project report. This document is a final year project report for the project titled “Life Cycle
Assessment of Rice Husk Briquette Production in Uganda”.
This document is organized in five chapters. The first chapter gives an introduction to the report.
It gives a foundation and answers questions like why this project in particular. It contains the
background to the project idea, problem statement, objectives, justification and scope of the
project. The second chapter contains the literature review into the project idea where the
methodology, Life Cycle Assessment, to be used in the project is described and the applications
of the methodology discussed. The chapter also gives a summary of the rice husk briquettes
production process.
Chapter three entails the detailed methodology used to execute the project. The fourth chapter
contains the results obtained, the interpretation or discussion of the results and the
recommendations made after results analysis. The final chapter contains the references and
citations used throughout the project report.
