    Irony in Gishu folktales

    Abstract
    The study analyzed irony in Gishu folktales. It basically identified the Gishu folktales and analyzed the irony used in the folktales. The study was carried out in Mbale district found in Eastern Uganda. Bumaswere village in Busano sub-county was chosen as a representative of the entire Bugisu region. Data was collected from the different respondents through interviewing and sampling. In the study, it was found out that the Gishu society has various folktales which are believed in and accepted by the society. It was found out that the folktales have various morals to impact into the people of Bugisu. The folktales are related to real life experiences hence interesting.
