Many supermarkets in Uganda developed a system of using smart cards to award their customers loyalty points every time they buy commodities from a given supermarket, so a customer can use those loyalty points to purchase goods without paying money and the number of points determine how much commodities u can get that means the higher u buy, the more points you get and in return that more goods you can buy using your points.
Therefore it requires the customer to carry this card where ever it is used. However challenges have been observed with this system for example every supermarket issues their own card and if you shop from different supermarkets you might end up with a basket of loyalty card, it takes a lot of time to acquire these cards after registering for them, in case the card gets lost it is also another hectic process to get a new one, the other issue is after a constant use of this card, it fades and that calls For replacement.
In order to address those issues, we designed the SM- loyalty mobile application that digitalized these cards from different supermarkets where some one shops from.
This mobile application allows the user to sign up for a card for the desired supermarket and manage this card. The add card module in this app allows the customer to view a variety of supermarkets from which he can choose. The scan module in this app uses a qr code that allows synchronization with the system at the supermarket counter point for the purpose of adding points, and deducting points. The sharing module allows customer to share points with a friend registered with the same particular supermarket.
