    Assessment of records management practices at Seseme Girls School

    Abstract
    The purpose of this study was to asses records management practices at Seseme Girls School. The objectives of the study were to identify the types of records generated and kept by Seseme Girls Secondary school, to assess the records management practices at the Seseme Girls secondary school, to identify the challenges associated with records management at Seseme Girls school and to propose the possible solutions to enhance School records management practices at Seseme girls secondary school. The study adopted a case study design with a sample size of 3 respondents and employed the use of interviews and observation to collect information in relation to the topic under study. The study findings revealed that the school uses a decentralized records management system however, the school has no proper records management policy. The study revealed that the school has the following major challenges; inadequate funding, lack of disaster management plan, less skilled staff among others. From the findings, it was concluded that records are of great importance to the school during policy implementation and determining the school services. The researcher recommended that that the following major measures be taken to improve Records management at the school ; Lobbying for more finds from the government, training stuff about records management practices, developing proper retention and disposition guides, establishing filling procedure guidelines, Adopting and automated records management system, developing a vital records and disaster management plan among others. This will contribute to increased understanding of records management at the school.
