Factors affecting the teaching of physical education in selected secondary schools in Rubaga division, Kampala district
Abstract
Since inception of education, different subjects have faced serious challenges ranging from inadequate skilled staff, inadequate facilities and equipment of sciences, plus lack of enough literature to aid research. It therefore follows that with the compulsory teaching of Physical Education in Secondary schools. It is likely to be affected by various factors. Therefore. This research study focused on the factors affecting the teaching of Physical Education in Selected Secondary Schools in Rubaga Division, Kampala District. The purpose of the study was to investigate the Factors affecting the teaching of PE in secondary schools in Rubaga, Kampala district.
It was based on three objectives, that’s to say: to identify factors that affect the teaching of Physical Education in selected schools in Rubaga division, Kampala, to establish the current status of schools in relation the teaching of Physical Education and also identify challenges that selected secondary schools in Rubaga division face when handling Physical Education.
The study was carried out in five sampled secondary schools in Rubaga Division. It had Seventy Three respondents (73) who were selected and used in the study. These included Head Teachers, Teachers and Students and they were selected using the simple random sampling technique. Data from the field was analyzed using tables in a descriptive statistical summary showing frequencies and percentages. Data was also analyzed by t- test method of analysis. Findings of the study revealed that despite the many challenges in the teaching of PE, lack of facilities and equipment plus lack of adequate qualified teachers were the most affecting factors to teaching of PE. A conclusion was derived and recommendations were suggested, these included Recruit teachers of PE, tightening the monitoring and inspection role in schools, schools should also improvise the equipment and facilities as well as Government constructing facilities in districts among others
