Alcohol use, delinquency, and aggression among adolescents in Kampala City Authority

Abstract

This dissertation presents a complete account of the research carried out on Alcohol use, Delinquency, and Aggression among adolescents in Kampala city council authority. The main objectives of the study were; to establish whether alcohol use leads to delinquency among adolescents, to explore the relationship between delinquency and aggression among adolescents, to examine the relationship between alcohol use and aggression among adolescents in Kampala city council authority. In order to accomplish the above-mentioned objectives a well-structured self- administered questionnaire was administered to respondents within the sample size of interest and the data obtained was analyzed using the SPSS /PASW using frequencies and percentages. A Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was used to test hypotheses. Results, majority of the respondents were male compared to females and most of them fell between the ages of 17-18 years. It was revealed that Alcohol use is prevalent among adolescents and the study manifested a significant relationship with regards to Alcohol use, Delinquency and Aggression. In reference to my findings Alcohol use and Delinquency had a significant relationship, there was also a significant relationship between Aggression and Delinquency and also a significant relationship was detected between Alcohol use and Aggression among adolescents in Kampala city council authority. The current study recommends that government together with school administration should put in place counselling services to help adolescents with coping skills rather than taking alcohol as an adaptive measure.
