Investigating the impact of ICT on undergraduate’s academic performance
Abstract
Recently, ICT was considered as the sole necessary medium of instruction between professors and students through zoom amid COVID-19 pandemic constraints, this study will be utilized as a baseline in the establishment of ICT facilities in Makerere University and the rest of Uganda's universities (Ali & Muhammad, 2013). Therefore, the main purpose of this study was investigating the impact of ICT utilization on the academic performance of undergraduate students of Makerere University, taking the case study of SSP. Specifically, the study sought to investigate the effect of gender; retakes; type of residence and weighted score ICT scores on the academic performance of students.
This study utilized secondary data sources. Secondary data source was obtained from the head of department, planning and applied statistics and then analyzed using Stata 15.0 version for univariate, bivariate and multivariate data analysis.
Results indicated that ICT test and exam scores as well as the weighting score were highly positively related to the academic performance of the students. Besides, though gender did not play any role in determining their performance, their residence status sis.
The regression model revealed that every additional ICT score was associated with an additional 1.067767 score. The coefficient for weighted score showed that a higher weighted score guarantees a higher academic performance for the students. Finally, when compared to non-residents, being a resident at the university boosts your chances of improving your academic achievement.
