Style and the theme of hardwork in selected soga proverbs.
Abstract
This research first looks at definitions of proverbs, background of the Basoga, and the specific literature that guided my research from the different writers. It also looks at how the style is used to portray proverbs that encourage hard work in Soga. Here,
we shall see how specific stylistic devices like imagery, (visual, motile and tactile), Irony and symbolism have been used to encourage hard work through a number of proverbs. It was carried out using a qualitative research design, with the use of interviews, questionnaires, and observation of the different soga proverbs and how they are used amongst individuals, not only to encourage hard work but also in other aspects of their day today activities. I looked at the specific literary theories of hard work, symbolism, Imagery and Irony that are in line with, and these guided my research. I also examined how different individuals in the community grasp the message in the different proverbs, especially through use of style. A case in point is that the older people in society analyze these proverbs just like than these young children, though the old are rich in these proverbs compared to the young children. In conclusion, I analyzed the different proverbs that related to hard work, and how they encourage
the people to work hard, and also some points to take note of so as to guide them throughout the process of working hard.
