The Covid -19 pandemic lockdown control measure and curfew, made access to physical pharmacies difficult for many people especially those with chronic illness that required taking medicines on a daily basis. In addition, access to pharmacies involves movements which brings in transport costs and takes a lot of time. In some cases, patients move from one pharmacy to another looking for drugs. This makes the process of getting drugs very long and tiresome. There is also lack of traceability and transparency of medicines sales in traditional pharmacies.
The usage of ICT in Uganda has increased. The developed online pharmacy would benefit Drug regulators, pharmacy owners and patients. Patients will have ability to; verify medicines to safeguard themselves from potentially substandard/counterfeit drugs, access medicine information such as expiry dates and also access the pharmacy to buy drugs 24/7 as long as they are connected to the internet. The pharmacist will be in position to manage medicine stock, view order reports and confirmation of payments from patients
