    Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between population growth and development of Kawempe Division in Kampala. The assessment was made on employment status of the respondent, age, gender and family background using both primary data and secondary data sourced from Kawempe and other published journals and periodicals, primary data used a sample of 112 Respondents. The analysis was made at different levels that is; frequency distribution and summary of statistics, ANOVA and the multiple linear regression. In the results, Majority of the Respondents were female aged between 18-23. The average monthly income of respondents was 9,6000Shs which indicates a moderate income among respondents. In the multivariate analysis’ population growth was significantly associated with education level, Respondent's family background, age, gender and whether the respondent is employed or not. In particular, population was higher among people between 18-20, the females, the employed in urban areas and also among people with lower education levels. In conclusion, the study noted that the rapid population growth rate causes great difficulties for not only a community but a nation’s economy since it increases the burden of families, communities, and government. It causes employment problems and slows the living standards and educational levels. The study also concludes that Education leads to lower birth rates and slows population growth and hence it can further be concluded that a more- educated workforce also makes development easier to achieve. The study recommended the best way to control population growth is based on a combination of political education and effective economic measures. And Emphasis should be put on infrastructure development and employment creation in pre- urban areas like Kawempe to improve on the livelihoods of the citizens and to reduce on the number of people flocking the urban areas for better lives.
