Impact of Covid-19 pandemic on teaching and learning drama: The case of the Department of Performing Arts and Film Makerere University
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the advantages and challenges tutors and students faced during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown with specific focus on the Department of Performing Arts and Film of Makerere University.
This study used a qualitative case study design coupled with the interview method, direct observation and document analysis.
The findings revealed different problems that students faced during the Covid-19 lockdown such as data costs, difficulty to adapt to online learning immediately after the traditional classroom-learning environment, conflicts over learning spaces with other family members or friends, network problems among others. However, students suggested solutions to the problems such as seek help, create a to-do list, inform family members about the schedule among others.
The findings of the study will hopefully help the lecturers and students adapt to online teaching and studying as a technological advancement in the education system.
It is hoped that this study will be benefited to researchers who will carry out similar studies in future.
