Psychological flexibility, mental health and job satisfaction among mental health workers in Kampala
Abstract
The study sought to examine the relationship between psychological flexibility, mental
health and job satisfaction among mental health workers in Kampala. The study was carried out
in various mental health facilities of Kampala. The study intended to achieve the following
objectives; to examine the relationship between psychological flexibility and mental health, to asses the relationship between psychological flexibility and job satisfaction and to find out the
relationship between mental health and job satisfaction. A correlational research study design
was used to establish the relationship between psychological flexibility, mental health and job
satisfaction among mental health workers in Kampala. The sample size included 162 mental
health workers. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires and the data was
analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), version 27.Pearson's Product
Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to determine the level of significance of the
hypothesis. Results revealed that there is no significant relationship between psychological
flexibility and mental health however there is a significant relationship between psychological
flexibility and mental health as well as a significant relationship between mental health and job
satisfaction. It was noted that there is an urgent need to set up programs and trainings that will
help to boost on the knowledge of psychological flexibility among mental health workers in order
to improve on their mental health and job satisfaction. It was concluded that there is need to carry
out similar research in mental health facilities outside Kampala including mental health facilities
in upcountry areas. This will help to observe of the validity and reliability of the results.
