    Abstract
Folktales as a vital form of oral literature encompass the traditions common to the people of diverse cultures throughout the African continent not only in Uganda using oral narratives from generation to generation. The dissertation is set out to examine the cultural symbols and their meanings in the Ganda folktales as well as the characterization of the various characters embedded within using the qualitative approach of data analysis for every folktale story to exhibit the significance of cultural aspects in them.
