Imagery in Proverbs of the Bagwere.
Abstract
The research is aimed at the imagery in proverbs of the Bagwere. Its focus is on the three images that are: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. The research was carried out to fill the gap that exists in the studies about the Bagwere proverbs and imagery in particular. Therefore, the research seeks to bridge this gap present in this area of study about imagery in the proverbs of
the Bagwere. The method used for data collection was based on the qualitative approach, and interviews were used. A group of elders was interviewed and they had to respond to the three research questions which included: What visual image is aroused by the proverb? Is there any auditory image in the proverb? Does the proverb arouse any kinesthetic image? The questions aimed to identify the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic images in the proverbs that were analyzed. The data collected was recorded in a notebook and later analyzed. The data obtained suggested that the Bagwere proverbs had the three images that are: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. However, the prominent image that was present in a big number of proverbs that were analyzed was the visual imagery. The findings thus suggest that visual imagery, auditory, and kinesthetic imagery are embedded in the proverbs of the Bagwere like in other studies about proverbs from various regions.
