Exploration of place and value of satire in selected Acholi folksaongs.
Abstract
These study investigates satire in selected Acholi folksongs. It identifies and describes it manifestation and operation. It attempts to fill the gap that has been created by scanty discussion of satire in Acholi folksongs. The study focuses on the value of satire and stylistic devices that lead to satire or elements of satire. The study treats satire as a literary device that has the ability to point out the deficiencies in certain human behaviours and social issues which result from them in such a way that they become absurd. Satire in this study also changes humanity for the better by mocking social, values, behaviours and attitudes they feel need to change. The study focuses on only three elements of satire that is irony, sarcasm and hyperbole. These devices are not viewed as distinct entities but rather as an integral part of satire.
