Prevalence, visual function and visual related challenges of presbyopia among teachers in primary and secondary schools in Kawempe Division, Kampala District, Uganda
Abstract
Globally, there are 2.2 billion people that have vision impairment either near or distance vision. There is 50.3% prevalence of presbyopia in Uganda and 3.5% spectacle coverage rate. The aim of this study was to ascertain the prevalence and visual challenges for teachers with presbyopia in primary and secondary schools.A descriptive cross-sectional study involving the use of quantitative methods was carried out in Kawempe division in Kampala district. Conclusion: Majority of teachers had impaired near visual functioning with a high prevalence of presbyopia (53.1%).
