    Abstract
The study examines unity and cooperation in selected Ankole folktales. The study was guided by two objectives; analyzing characterization and how different characters behave in teams and incidents of characters acting together in selected Ankole folktales. The study was both field and library-based, and employing a qualitative approach as well. The study used close reading to analyse the data. Close reading helped to develop a deep understanding and a precise interpretation of a literary passage that is based first and foremost on the words themselves. But a close reading does not stop there; rather it embraces larger themes and ideas evoked and/or implied by the passage itself.
