Implementing a computer based information management system: a case study of Ahabinyanjja Safaris Camp and Lodge
Abstract
Rapid development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) has revolutionized all industries in the World and presents challenges and great opportunities for tourism industry too.
Management Information Systems’ impact on organization’s effectiveness is a well-researched scientific area and has over the years grown exponentially. Information
systems exist in order to intensify the information flow within an organization, at all levels, specifically to allow set of data to reach the designated person, in the right format, and at the right time, generating a positive and beneficial contribution to the organization. In this paper, the use of systems development life cycle as a methodology in information systems research is described and defended. A framework to explain the nature of system developed in the research study has also been designed (Nunamaker Jr, Chen et al. 1990).
The system developed will meet several requirements for a tour company however it still remains open to further improvement by other researchers and systems developers who would wish to add more to this thesis study. For-example existing research shows need to integrate social media platforms in tour company systems for more efficiency. Therefore, this paper concludes with recommendations for future research aimed at breaking down the barriers in order to move from the technological emergence phase to the technological sublime phase in which decision makers and other end users understand the technology
