dc.description.abstract | Copper is a significant contributor to the economies of developed, developing, and newly developed countries. Copper has been discovered in several locations in Uganda, but Kilembe, where copper-cobalt sulphide mineralization occurs, is the only significant deposit discovered to date. Copper ore exploration has traditionally relied on geochemistry, geophysics, geological mapping, aerial photointerpretation, and ground surveys, among other prospecting techniques. These methods of exploration are cumbersome, time consuming and also tend to leave out potential areas because they some of these areas are not accessible and thus samples can’t be obtained. This research project used satellite based remote sensing and GIS techniques in copper ore deposit exploration in Kasese region. Argillic and Phyllic copper ore were found to be in the hills of mountain Rwenzori. The Co-pyrite ore that was first ore type mined by the British government at Kilembe copper mines in the early 1950s. Co-pyrite is an Argillic and it used to be located to the east of the copper ore processing plant. This research guides that the copyrite ore is exhausted.
