    Abstract
    This project aims to thoroughly investigate and propose a comprehensive solution for securing QR code payment systems against phishing attacks using public key cryptography. The widespread adoption of mobile payments in recent years has led to an increase in the use of QR codes for transactions. However, this technology is vulnerable to phishing attacks, where a malicious actor creates a fake QR code to trick the user into sending their payment information to the attacker. These attacks can result in serious financial losses for both consumers and merchants. In this project, we will thoroughly review the current state of QR code security, including a survey of existing phishing attack methods and an analysis of current QR code security measures. We will then investigate the use of public-key cryptography as a means of protecting against phishing attacks. Public-key cryptography, which uses a pair of keys—one for encryption and one for decryption—offers a high level of security and is widely used in various financial applications. The proposed solution will be implemented and tested using various simulated phishing attack scenarios. The results of this research will be evaluated in terms of the effectiveness of the proposed solution in detecting and preventing phishing attacks, as well as its impact on the user experience. Overall, this project aims to provide a comprehensive solution to the problem of securing QR code payment systems against phishing attacks using public key cryptography. The results of this research have the potential to significantly improve the security of QR code payment systems, increase consumer trust in mobile payments, and provide merchants with a reliable and secure payment method. Additionally, this work will add to the existing body of research in the field of mobile payment security and may serve as a foundation for future research in the area.
