The effects of e-learning on the academic activities at Makerere University: a case of School of Social Sciences
Abstract
This work presents study findings on the effects of e-learning on the academic activities of students a case of the school of social sciences. The purpose of the study was, to establish effects of e-learning on the academic activities of students of the school of social sciences Makerere University. In total, 105 respondents were selected for this study, using both qualitative and quantitative techniques to collect data. Findings revealed that e-learning improves interaction between students and lecturers consequently improving teaching, improves on the number of participates and attendance while reducing, time and flexibility. The study revealed that e-learning y improves on the quality of teaching, creates easy access to learning and improves learning quality, ensures easy registration of students and ensures early release of results and assessment. The study concluded that e-learning is fundamental for students’ academic activities and could add significant value to them. That e-learning has positive effects to student’s activities. The student hence recommends that there should be capacity skill training for e-learning users and students initiated by the University to ensure that the service can be effectively implemented in students’ academic activities. The study also recommends that efforts should be made by the university to improve the e-learning platform like MUELE so as to make to usability easy for the user. The study further recommends that the university should implement formal procedures that will streamline, e-learning and communication among the users
