Stylistic analysis in selected Soga proverbs.
Abstract
This research looks at definitions of proverbs, background of the Basoga, and the specific literature that guided my research from the different writers. It also looks at how the style is used to portray proverbs in Soga. Here, we shall see how specific stylistic devices like imagery, (visual, motile and tactile), Irony and symbolism have been used to encourage hard work through a number of proverbs. It was carried out using a qualitative research design, with the use of interviews, questionnaires, and observation of the different soga proverbs and how they are used amongst individuals, not only to encourage hard work but also in other
aspects of their day to day activities. I looked at the specific literary styles: symbolism, Imagery and Irony that are in line with, and
these guided my research. I also examined how different individuals in the community grasp the message in the different
proverbs that is the use of style. A case in point is that the older people in society analyze these proverbs just like than these young children, though the old are rich in these proverbs compared to the young children.
