Majority of livestock farmers do not keep records leading to poor decision-making on the farm and policy making and those who keep records do not store their data in electronic format, which again poses another challenge in data analysis. The majority of traceability tools used by farmers in developing countries especially Uganda do not meet international standards based on tools they use for tracing animals which provide very little information about the animal. Such tools lack the capability to keep track of useful information about an animal. The farm owners told us that they keep records manually i.e. through use of books, small boards in each animal cage containing the date of birth, mother to that animal and its name among others. This has led to inconsistency in data format, duplication of files, security problems among others. Animal Records Management System enables farm owners and the farm staff to process, store and retrieve information required for decision making on the farm. The information used for this system was collected using Questionnaire and interview guides in order to get the different perspective from the farm staff and farm owners and any suggestions on what is required and how to improve the system. The research data was analyzed using comparative methods and content analysis with excel. Data flow diagrams and enhanced Entity Relationship Diagrams were used to model the system design for easy understanding of how it works for both developers and other stakeholders. The system was developed using technologies like HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, Laravel and Bootstrap. The system has different users with different roles that is; the Farm Owner (Super Administrator) who is in charge of monitoring and maintaining the system, the farm manager (Administrator) is able to login and search for available animals, daily sales and health status of the animals among others. This report covers all chapters and activities carried out through the entire project.
